Peoria Chiropractor Dr. Dan Joseph

"I credit migraine headaches for sending me on my career path to becoming a chiropractor. "

Dr. Dan Joseph, Peoria chiropractor"As a high school football player while at Peoria Notre Dame High School, I injured my neck making a tackle during a game in 1991. I then began suffering with migraine headaches for the next six months. The headaches became so intense that my normal outgoing/friendly personality had changed, my grades had fallen, and I was in a lot of pain at a very young age. My parents became increasingly concerned and took me to see my family doctor, sports medicine doctor, neurologist, physical therapist and they even drove me to Rochester, Minnesota to be evaluated by Mayo Clinic's "headache specialist". I had every test (MRI, CT scan, blood work, and more) taken and tried every medication (prescription and over the counter) with little to no relief at all. Finally, I saw a chiropractor who treated me with spinal adjustments. Within two weeks, I had about 90% relief and was off ALL of my medications! This teenage experience led me on a path to help the thousands and thousands of other pain sufferers who need help. My profession as a chiropractor has given me the unique opportunity to meet and become friends with thousands of patients, as well as help those patients live a healthier and happier life."

My Philosophy

"My philosophy in caring for my patients is simple. I treat all my patients the same way I would want my family to be treated. Every patient receives a thorough one hour examination before any treatment is offered. I start by LISTENING to your problems, you will then be EXAMINED followed by X-RAYS. Once I have evaluated your case, I then provide you with treatment options. If I feel I can help you then I will take the needed time to explain what is wrong with you, how long it will take before you will feel better, and lastly I will make sure your treatment is affordable. If I do not feel I can help you, I will make the appropriate referral. While chiropractic care can help most problems, unfortunately, it cannot help everything and everyone. Knowing this, it is crucial that if I do not feel I can help you, I will refer you to someone who can. Over the years, I have developed strong relationships with the Peoria medical community and I will make the appropriate referral when needed. I refuse to let you live in pain."

On a Personal Note...

"On November 10, 2001 I married my high school girlfriend Kelly. Kelly and I have since had three children (Spencer, Christian and Maria). My wife and children bring me more enjoyment than I would have ever imagined. Every evening when I pull my car into the garage (following work) I look forward to those first 30 seconds following walking in the house. I open the door and the sound of my kids little foot steps running to the door to greet me simply makes my day. Once I get past the initial hugs and kisses by my children I am then greeted by my smiling wife. These are my favorite 30 seconds of each day! We spend quite a bit of our time at soccer fields, T-Ball Games, Biddy Basketball, JFL, etc...but my wife, Kelly, and I really enjoy taking the kids on vacations to Minnesota, Chicago, St. Louis, and Florida. Family and work take up most of my free time, but when I get some extra time I really enjoy sports, fishing, hunting and traveling. Fortunately, I come from a big family (four brothers and one sister); therefore, there is always someone or something to keep me busy."

"I do my very best to stay healthy. Exercising at least three times a week, taking the appropriate supplements, and receiving monthly maintenance chiropractic adjustments is vital to keeping my health. Like all of you, I face the same challenges of eating a healthy diet, exercising on a regular basis and finding outlets to reduce stress. I firmly believe that balancing your life between family, work, friends, and faith are what keep me as happy of a person as I am."

Chiropractic, Drugs and Surgery

"I am often asked questions like, "I heard that chiropractors don't believe in taking any medications?".  I answer these questions with the following response, "I do believe in medicine. In fact, I would hate to live in a world without medication...it saves lives. My concern is that too many people abuse medication and too many doctors over-prescribe medication. Billion dollar pharmeceutical advertisments have led people to believe that they actually need to be taking these medications and that they will be healthier if they do take them. This is wrong and it needs to be addressed. I emphasize the importance of medicine, but not as a first line of treatment, but rather as a last option. If you think practically about how health care works it will make sense to you.  If you are sick then try chiropractic first, try supplements, try improving your nutrition. If these safe and conservative treatments fail, then take medication. If medication fails, then consider surgery. These are the steps I would like to see people take before they pop a pill for every little ache and pain. Short term, the medication may help, but long term I can assure you it will cause problems elsewhere. Most all medications can help you with your pain, but temporary pain relief is not always the answer. I am confident in my ability to not only alleviate your pain, but more importantly I will properly diagnose what is causing your pain or symptom(s). So, I ask that you explore alternative treatments for your problems before immediately running to the drug store and popping another pill."

"I consider myself an excellent listener and hope I get the opportunity to meet you in person and discuss your specific health challenge(s). Give our office a call to stop the pain and start living again."

The Doctor Asks some important questions of interest to Peoria residents - Chiropractor Peoria The Doctor Asks...

How long does it take to form a bone spur?
Many who begin chiropractic care think their problem happened "last week when you bent over funny." But pictures of the spine tell a different story. Chiropractors know it can take your body years to deposit the calcium necessary to form a bone spur. It's your body's response to stress due to gravity or joint malfunction. And chiropractic care can help.
Are aches and pains good or bad?
While aches or pains may be unpleasant, they're merely warning signs. As a Peoria chiropractor, I see this all the time. The pain is not the problem! It just means a limitation has been reached and something needs to change. That's when we get to work correcting the underlying cause.
