Peoria Chiropractor Dr. Heath Hishon

"Chiropractic did not find me, I found chiropractic."

Dr. Heath Hishon, Peoria chiropractorI have no personal miracle story to tell, rather in discovering what chiropractic focused on and offered, I knew this would be my life’s work. I have however seen miracles and the awesome healing potential of the human body. Working with this daily is awe inspiring, humbling and makes me thankful to be the profession that is chiropractic.

My Philosophy About Chiropractic

Chiropractic to me has always made sense. From childhood, health care never made sense. Our medical model is disease care, waiting for a disease to develop before seeking care. Then offering medications that may help with the condition, but compromise or stress other areas of the body, leading to more health problems. Chiropractic is what health care should be. While it focuses a good deal on physical, as a chiropractor I embrace all aspects of healthy living and in doing so, provide healthy solutions to maintaining one’s good health. This to me has always been superior to the treatment of disease.

My Education as a Chiropractor

I attended Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa. It is the “fountainhead” of chiropractic, where the profession was discovered, developed and continues to be refined to this day. Choosing Palmer was simple, it’s the original, longest standing chiropractic school in the world. My training was unparalleled. My instructors trained me to be a great chiropractor and even better clinician.

My goals in practice are to offer the most comprehensive natural approach to caring for someone’s health available. Use of nutrition and acupuncture aid in my patient’s recovery and complement chiropractic care. I also work diligently to get my patient’s to be proactive with their care and more importantly their health. I stress education about their condition, but also how the decisions they make in their life effects their health. I am humbled at the efforts my patients will make to recover their health once they have lost it. It makes me realize what a precious gift good health is and that we should take steps to maintain it as much as we can.

On a Personal Note....

I have been blessed with an incredible wife who is my friend. We met while we were both in college, her in nursing school, me in chiropractic school. We have three beautiful daughters that keep us busy from swimming, gymnastics, soccer, basketball to ballet to school. We are so proud of them and enjoy every moment we can as a family. As for me, I have too many hobbies that I enjoy from biking, exercising, playing the guitar and golf. Most of all I enjoy the time we spend with family and friends.

I receive chiropractic care weekly. Being a chiropractor takes a toll on the body, so I take great strides to keep myself aligned. I also exercise 4-5 times per week between weight training, cardiovascular and core strength. As a family we are active riding bikes to taking walks to playing “horse” in the driveway. Fortunately my wife is a tremendous cook so we eat well as a family. We are conservative in our approach to our health. It is rare that we take medications over the counter or prescribed. Our children have not been vaccinated which was the right decision for us. My wife being in the medical field and I thoroughly reviewed the information available in making that decision and we both came to the conclusion that the risks did not outweigh the benefits. I do not preach this to my patients, but rather ask them to make an informed decision about vaccinating and come to their own conclusion.

The Doctor Asks some important questions of interest to Peoria residents - Chiropractor Peoria The Doctor Asks...

How long does it take to form a bone spur?
Many who begin chiropractic care think their problem happened "last week when you bent over funny." But pictures of the spine tell a different story. Chiropractors know it can take your body years to deposit the calcium necessary to form a bone spur. It's your body's response to stress due to gravity or joint malfunction. And chiropractic care can help.
Are aches and pains good or bad?
While aches or pains may be unpleasant, they're merely warning signs. As a Peoria chiropractor, I see this all the time. The pain is not the problem! It just means a limitation has been reached and something needs to change. That's when we get to work correcting the underlying cause.
